As unemployment falls focus must remain on those at the margins

The Work Foundation

Commenting on today's labour market statistics, Ian Brinkley, chief economist at The Work Foundation, said:

“These figures tell us that current forecasts that unemployment will fall towards 6% by the end of 2015 are entirely plausible. It is all the more important that the 2014 Budget sets out effective measures to ensure that disadvantaged groups, such as less qualified young people, can also take advantage of these new opportunities. And the challenge remains to translate growth into improved productivity and higher pay alongside more jobs.”
