Making science work for English beef and sheep producers and processors is the theme of an EBLEX research and development workshop for farmer advisors, taking place on Tuesday July 8.

The event, at Woodland Grange near Leamington Spa, is open to all professionals who advise beef and sheep farmers, such as vets, consultants and farm suppliers. It will showcase some of the latest EBLEX-funded research projects that have been undertaken to help the beef and sheep meat supply chain become more efficient and add value to the industry. What’s more, it will offer an opportunity to hear directly from the scientists at the forefront of the research.

Various EBLEX-funded projects will be showcased and each will look at the background to the project, the results and what this means for the industry.

As well as presentations about recently finished projects, there will be an opportunity to hear about ongoing work, plus a look at priority areas for future research from EBLEX senior beef and sheep scientist Liz Genever. Liz will be encouraging attendees to submit their views on where future research should be focused with an ‘idea capture’ wall.

The presentations on the day will include:
• David Harris (ADAS) presenting on a recently-finished project on reducing water use in the supply chain
• Laura Green (Warwick University) giving an update on the progress of a project reviewing causes and prevention of mastitis in ewes
• Diana Williams (Liverpool University) discussing their project developing new management tools for control and prevention of liver fluke in cattle
Lunch and refreshments will be provided. To book your place or request an event programme with full details please email karen.morris@eblex.ahdb.org.uk 024 7647 8828. Places are limited so please book by June 20th if you wish to attend.
