Enshrine the Convention on the Rights of the Child into UK law - Unicef comments on JCHR report UNICEF UK 1 min read24 March 2015 Partner content Commenting on the Joint Committee of Human Rights report published today, Sol Oyuela, Unicef UK Public Affairs Director said: "Unicef UK welcomes the Joint Committee of Human Rights report published today and the Committee’s emphasis on the need to ensure that the best interests of the child are paramount particularly in immigration matters. The Committee has raised concerns that the situation for migrant children has grown worse and that long-term care plans are not in place for children seeking protection in the UK from traffickers and fleeing persecution. Unicef UK agrees that this needs to be urgently rectified. The report also finds that the Government is keeping under review plans to bring the Convention on the Rights of the Child into UK law. Unicef UK has long called for the Convention to be enshrined in UK law and would warmly welcome and continue to strongly support Government efforts to make this a reality."
