Family-run business, Lawthorn Farm Restaurant, has purchased the freehold for the property after receiving a £320,000 finance package from Santander Corporate Commercial, backed by the government’s Enterprise Finance Guarantee scheme.

The Lawthorn Farm Restaurant is an Indian restaurant based in a converted steading in Irvine. Its owners, Inderjit Singh, his sister, Harminder Kaur, and Sukhdave Basra, have operated the restaurant since 2007 under a lease arrangement. Following the injection of finance they have now been able to purchase the freehold and take more control over the future of their business.

The restaurant is considered one of the best throughout Ayrshire achieving a rating of 4.5 of 5 on Trip Advisor. In 2009 they came third in a prestigious UK-wide competition held at the House of Commons to find the best South Asian restaurant. Director and chef Inderjit Singh cooked their signature dish, Lamb Punjabi Chilli for judges such as celebrity chef Ainsley Harriott.

Inderjit Singh, Director and Chef at Lawthorn Farm, said: “Since we opened the restaurant in 2007 we have steadily grown the business and established its reputation in the area. We are very pleased we have been able to take the opportunity to buy the freehold as this gives us more security over the future of the restaurant.”

Douglas Dunlop, Relationship Director for Santander Corporate Commercial, said: “We have worked with both the Singh and Basra families over a number of years so I am delighted that we have been able to help them again. Lawthorn Farm Restaurant is unique and well-known in the Ayrshire area and we look forward to continuing our relationship.”
