Getting the most from Environmental Impact Assessments

Getting better efficiencies from linking two popular environmental project tools is the focus of a book co-edited by a researcher from the University of Hertfordshire and being launched at the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA) in Lisbon, Portugal.
“Furthering environmental impact assessment: towards a seamless connection between EIA and EMS” is the first book to examine the link between environmental impact assessments (EIA) and environmental management systems (EMS). It gets to the heart of effective practice, by examining the theory of how they should interact and delving into real-life examples.
Lisa Palframan, co-editor and senior lecturer in Environmental Management at the University of Hertfordshire, said: “Aimed at helping environmental professionals, academics and students all over the world, the book shows how companies are making the best use of the environmental tools that they have available – those which save them time and money. It details the good practice of linking EIA and EMS by presenting real-life examples.”
Environmental professionals in consultancies, contractors and large developers will gain a better understanding of how to manage environmental risk during the design, consenting, construction and operation of major new development projects. The book includes theoretical contributions and also case studies from environmental professionals working on projects in business and industry as far afield as Scotland, Australia and Iran.
