How to improve UK mobile coverage

London First

London First has responded to the Government’s consultation on improving UK mobile phone coverage, with John Dickie, Director of Policy Strategy, calling on leaders to prioritise long-delayed reforms to the Electronic Communications Code.

“The Government is right to seek ways of ensuring better mobile phone coverage across the UK – high quality communications infrastructure is now a prerequisite for future economic success,” he said.

“The UK has a highly competitive telecoms market and we would encourage Government to develop solutions which enable more vigorous competition rather than undermine that competition.

“In particular we would urge the Government to prioritise long-delayed reforms to the Electronic Communications Code which would make it quicker and cheaper to upgrade existing infrastructure and to install new masts where they are needed,” he added.

“This would speed up the rollout of new mobile infrastructure, giving consumers the faster and better services they demand.”

The Government’s consultation, open till 26 November, can be found here.
