Responding to the Liberal Democrat announcementon the Carer's Allowance, Dr Moira Fraser, interim chief executive of Carers Trust, said:

“Increasing the weekly threshold for Carer’s Allowance from £102 to £110 is welcome news and means that those on the minimum wage can work at least 16 hours a week and still receive the allowance. However, many carers who work or are in education will continue to be ineligible and still struggle on without any extra financial support.

“More still needs to be done to support all unpaid carers. The Care Act, for the first time, puts carers on an equal footing to the people they care for. However, without additional funding for social care, carers will still not receive the necessary support.”
