million+ comments on Labour manifesto pledge for careers advice service

The university think-tank million+ has commented on the manifesto pledge made by the Labour Party today (April 9) that every teenager will receive one-to-one careers advice to support them from school to work.

Pam Tatlow, Chief Executive of the university think-tank million+, said:

“A return to a nationally funded careers service available to older learners as well as young people would be a welcome step in restoring a comprehensive system of face-to-face information, advice and guidance.

“If the maximum tuition fee was lowered to £6000 per year there would be a very strong case to reduce the lower fee cap to £3000. This would ensure that all institutions charging fees in excess of £3000 would need to agree an access agreement with the Office For Fair Access. However universities and students would need to be fully consulted prior to access monies being used to partially fund any new careers service.”
