More council homes can tackle escalating rent

House Builders Association | National Federation of Builders

Responding to new study showing only one council house is being built for every 21 sold off under the Right To Buy scheme, Rico Wojtulewicz, Policy Advisor at the House Builders Association (HBA) said:

“Any motivation to build more council homes is a welcome addition to policy desires, not only to increase council stock but to tackle escalating rent. SME developers have strong links with communities and local authorities and therefore are in a fantastic position to employ and train local people, as well as creatively grow council portfolios.

"With many more homes needed the HBA welcomes any moves to increase construction career opportunities and tackle the shortfall in housing supply.”
