Airbus employees in the UK have broken the £100,000 barrier for Alzheimer’s Society since they became the official Airbus in the UK charity partner in January this year.

Alzheimer’s Society was voted partner charity by employees across Broughton and Filton plants. The total money raised at the end of the 18-month partnership will fund a three year PhD research project into the medical causes of Dementia, as well as funding dementia carers in the Filton and Broughton areas.

Phil McGraa, UK Charity Campaign Manager, said: "I am continually overwhelmed by the generosity and support of employees towards fundraising and I look forward to the remainder of the partnership with Alzheimer's Society.

“The teams at Airbus’ UK sites choose the charity they want to support and the dedication they show in giving up their time to raise such a phenomenal amount of money is really inspiring.”

Since January 2013, employees from the Broughton and Filton sites have taken part in a wide range of activities; from exhausting marathons, creative bake-offs, gruelling extreme obstacle courses and hair-raising skydives. A recent Cake-Off held at Filton, which raised over £300, saw the workforce showcase their skills in baking – including cakes in the shape of aeroplanes.

Since its launch in 1989, Airbus employees have raised more than £5.5 million for national and local community projects and given up the equivalent of over 7800 volunteering days. Charity Challenge has supported charities including NSPCC, Macmillan Cancer Relief, The Stroke Association, NCH, and most recently CLIC Sargent.
