Mott MacDonald has been appointed by Henry Boot Developments - a leading UK property developer and Aberdeen City Council’s development partner for the new multi-million pound Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre (AECC) – as transportation consultant.

In the lead-up to submitting planning applications later this year for the proposed new facility at Bucksburn, as well as redevelopment proposals for the current AECC site in Bridge of Don (which will be vacated once the new facility is up and running), a comprehensive team of professionals from across a wide spectrum of disciplines is working in partnership with Henry Boot Developments and Aberdeen City Council.

Kevin Burnett, Mott MacDonald’s project director, said: “Mott MacDonald will undertake the survey and transport assessment work for the new AECC. We are working closely with the architect and rest of the project team to find the best mixed-use transport solutions for the centre, in an area that is extremely busy due to its proximity to Aberdeen Airport and the A96 Aberdeen-Inverness trunk road.”

Aberdeen City Council appointed Henry Boot Developments in late 2013 as their development partner for the multi-million pound redevelopment of the AECC, to deliver a bigger, better exhibition and conference venue which is a key element of the business structure needed to promote Aberdeen as a World Energy City and the Energy Capital of Europe.

Nick Harris, regional manager for Henry Boot Developments commented: “The new AECC facility is a vital element of Aberdeen’s future growth and development, with our task to deliver a state-of-the-art exhibition and conference centre which meets the needs of the city now and in future years."

“With our initial public consultation on the project now underway and running until the end of June 2014, the project team is taking feedback on board already and over the summer months we will be working together to incorporate the views of those who participated before going back out with revised plans in the autumn,” Nick added.

Aberdeen City Council leader Jenny Laing said: "Aberdeen is a leading world energy city which requires a world-class exhibition and conference centre to support its growing business needs and to continue to attract top level events to the city.

"Henry Boot Developments has brought together a highly-skilled, very well-respected team to work on the proposed redevelopment of the AECC. I am confident that this strong group of companies, led by Henry Boot Developments, will deliver the state-of-the art venue Aberdeen needs and deserves," Jenny added.
