From Monday 27th through to Thursday 30th October, the Upper Waiting Hall will be playing host to a unique exhibition exploring people’s views on disability through the medium of a postcard.

Sponsored by Kate Green MP, and compiled by the national disability charity, United Response, award winning Postcards from the Edges looks to harness creativity to increase awareness of the lives of people with disabilities and mental health needs.

Launched last year, the project offers a blank postcard as a space for people to express something about themselves. Using drawings, prose, and photography, each postcard offers a unique insight into the lives of the creators and their hopes, fears and achievements.

Everyone was invited to take part in the project. Not only people with disabilities and mental health needs, but anyone who has a view on disability.

Hundreds answered the charity’s call to action, including Oscar winning actress Emma Thompson, Olympian Sally Gunnell, Suede singer Brett Anderson and Paralympians Fran Williamson, Hannah Cockroft and Dame Sarah Storey.

The collection of postcards was turned into an eye-catching and thought provoking exhibition which has toured the country, and which, for the next week, will be taking up residence in the Upper Waiting Hall.

A living and evolving project, United Response are continuing to invite people to contribute their own postcard, for inclusion in future exhibitions. To find out more about the exhibition, visit the Upper Waiting Hall, or email Lindsey.simmonds@unitedresponse.org.uk
