Response to report on alcohol minimum pricing

A report published in The Lancet today claims that minimum pricing for alcohol would reduce deaths and hospital admissions among high risk drinkers who purchase large quantities of low cost alcohol.

Responding, Dr Jacquie Lavin, Slimming World head of Nutrition and Research says:

"While low cost alcohol may not have an impact on drinking habits, the impact on healthy lifestyle should be taken into consideration too. The links between alcohol and weight are not as well recognised as the impact that high fat and high sugar foods have on weight management. With obesity at an all-time high – as shown in the new PHE figures released on 5th February – anything that helps nudge people to a healthier lifestyle, like minimum pricing, could have a positive impact on helping to tackle obesity."
