Local Government People draws together details of this week's local by-election result and changes to councils' political compositions.

Local authority by-elections held Thursday 8th May 2014:

Fenland District Council – Roman Bank: Conservative hold

By-election held following the resignation of Conservative councillor Philip Hatton.

Clark, Samantha Jane – Conservative – 763 (48.1%) – **elected**
Lay, Alan – UKIP – 537 (33.8%)
Diggle, Barry Earnest Arthur – Labour – 193 (12.2%)
Murat, Erbie – Independent – 70 (4.4%)
Court, Stephen Robert – Liberal Democrat – 24 (1.5%)

Votes: 1, 587*
Turnout: 29.7%
Majority: 226

*NB: number does not include spoilt ballots

Political compositions of the local authorities concerned:

Fenland District Council: Conservative 34, Liberal Democrat Alliance 2, Independent 2, Truly Independent Party 2 – Conservative controlled
