Responding to the UK Government's 2014 Budget, David Bull, Executive Director of UNICEF UK said:

“UNICEF UK is proud of the UK Government’s continuing commitment to the world’s poorest children. The Chancellor confirmed today that the UK will maintain the commitment to spend 0.7 per cent of national income on international aid - a promise that will save millions of children in the world’s poorest countries and transform their lives. The Government should now look to enshrine this promise in law in order to encourage other countries to meet their commitments and reach agreed international aid targets.

The UK has led the way in responding to humanitarian emergencies such as the current conflict in Syria – having committed over £600 million to provide vital aid for over a million people in Syria and across the region.

Furthermore, the huge generosity shown by the British public for the humanitarian response for Syria demonstrates that, despite tough times at home, the British public believes that saving children’s lives is the right thing to do - wherever they are in the world."
