University chancellors and vice-chancellors gathered last night for Universities UKs annual reception for university chancellors.

The event – held at the Warwick Business School at the Shard London – was an opportunity for university chancellors, as the ceremonial figureheads of universities, to hear about current issues affecting higher education and to discuss what universities can expect from the 2015 parliament.

During the evening, Universities UK also launched a new animated video highlighting the role universities play in transforming lives through education and research and how universities help boost jobs, skills and productivity in all parts of the UK.

The video was narrated by broadcaster Gabby Logan who is also the chancellor of Leeds Trinity University. She said: “I have seen for myself the enormous value of universities and the benefits a university education brings. Every day, universities are improving lives, helping the economy grow, and, through the power of their research and ideas, changing the world. They are one of the UK’s real success stories.”

Nicola Dandridge, Chief Executive of Universities UK, said: “This animation illustrates just some of the many ways in which universities make a substantial positive impact on all our lives. We must ensure that universities are protected and funded appropriately so that they can continue this critically important work.”
