Responding to the opening of the West of Duddon Sands offshore wind farm, Gina Hanrahan, Climate and Energy Policy Officer at WWF said:

“It’s great to see another important milestone for the offshore wind industry. Climate change is the biggest threat facing our oceans and seas globally and is already impacting on the UK’s rich marine environment. It’s therefore vital that we find ways to harness the clean energy that marine renewables, such as offshore wind, can provide.

“This project provides evidence of the tangible jobs and supply chain benefits of offshore wind. These kinds of projects, and the even larger Round 3 projects already consented, will help to reduce technology costs, boost jobs and investment and reduce our reliance on imported fossil fuels. However, we need a more supportive investment landscape and a clear long-term vision from the UK Government to unlock the industry’s potential and to drive further cost reductions.”
