Chartered Institute of Building

We have a Royal Charter to promote the science and practice of building and construction for the benefit of society, which we have been doing since our formation in 1834. Our qualifications are a mark of the highest levels of competence and professionalism, and our 45,000 members work at every stage of the lifecycle of a project; they are the leaders who shape our towns, cities and infrastructure.

Our aim is to advance the profession of construction management, underpinned by a wealth of experience in the development, conservation and improvement of the built environment.

We welcome any queries from MPs, Peers, researchers, civil servants and the media about issues related to construction and the wider built environment. CIOB policies and views can be accessed on our bespoke policy website here. We also have comparable constituency data available on the construction workforce, with data from 2007 to 2015. Go to our website to learn more.
