The latest issue of The House magazine includes a special report to celebrate Net Zero Week 2025, bringing together the voices of industry experts, parliamentarians and businesses to explore how we can all contribute to achieving our net-zero goals

As political priorities shift, so too does the debate around the UK’s path to net-zero. Once marked by broad consensus, the conversation is now under closer scrutiny – with parties offering different visions of how quickly, and even whether, the transition should happen.

While public concern about climate change remains steady, it increasingly competes with more immediate challenges: the cost of living, high energy bills, economic uncertainty, and fears over job security. The challenge – and opportunity – is to show how climate ambition can respond to those concerns, not run counter to them.

The Path to Net Zero 2025Net-zero industries are already demonstrating what’s possible. In the following pages, they show how clean energy can create jobs in regions that have seen industrial decline, strengthen energy security in an increasingly volatile world, and lower energy bills for households across the country.

Across the political spectrum, there is still recognition of both the urgency and opportunity of climate action. Former energy minister Chris Skidmore writes about the need to overcome vested interests delaying progress; Pippa Heylings MP highlights the bill-cutting power of green home upgrades; and Alex Sobel MP makes the case for seizing the economic potential of a greener future.

If net-zero is to withstand political turbulence and deliver a more sustainable and prosperous future, it must be grounded in visible, practical progress that earns public trust – and keeps the UK at the forefront of a once-in-a-generation opportunity.
