Number 10 lobby summary on Danny Dyer, Michel Barnier and Gavin Williamson

2 min read

Here is a summary of this morning's briefing for lobby journalists by a spokeswoman for the Prime Minister.

DANNY DYER

On Danny Dyer's claim that Brexit is a "mad riddle so no one knows what it is", the spokeswoman said: "We have always been clear that Brexit is a challenging process but we've made good progress on it. We will be publishing a white paper next month which will set out more clearly to the public what our future plans are and what we are seeking to achieve."

Responding to the actor's claim that David Cameron is a "t**t", she said: "Much like columnists and others, people who appear on broadcast or newspapers are perfectly entitled to their opinion."

MICHEL BARNIER

On comments by Michel Barnier that there remain "huge and serious" differences between the UK and EU on the future of the Irish border, the spokeswoman said: "We've never said anything other than it's very challenging. We've put forward our position, which is that we don't want to see a hard border returning. We've also put forward a backstop proposal and there will be a white paper next month. We will continue to talk to the EU and to the Taoiseach and others about it."

GAVIN WILLIAMSON

Asked why Gavin Williamson was not quoted in a Number 10 press release on BAE Systems winning the contract to build warships for Australia, the spokeswoman said: "I think he issued his own comments alongside it. It's obviously very good news, as the PM said yesterday."
