I am pleased the government has recognised the need for electoral reform by removing first-past-the-post in mayoral elections. We should expect the same strong representative standards for our MPs.

I was somewhat bemused by the recent article in The House by Chris Hinchliff MP and Neil Duncan-Jordan MP bemoaning their suspension from the Parliamentary Labour Party (PLP).

As a campaigning addict, April and May are usually my favourite time of year. I did indeed enjoy the spring sunshine in beautiful, green North Durham and hundreds of conversations with local voters. The results, less so.
