Do not mess with sleep-deprived mums and dads juggling kids and expensive childcare. That was my main message to anybody who would listen when I was pitching for an improved offer. I think I will now add – do not mess with sleep-deprived Conservative MPs. I and others are on the warpath to champion families and the early years sector.

In 2020 I found myself at the centre of a social media storm. My team noticed an increased number of abusive comments, tweets and messages. This was not caused by a position I had taken or a view I had expressed – it was due to the fact I had been lucky enough to have a baby.

The Divorce Act will overhaul divorce law and is due in Spring 2022. I believe this is a real opportunity to reset the agenda for separating families, keep them out of court where safe to do so and focus on children.

The tragic death of Sarah Everard has rightly put safety in our towns and cities front and centre of a big societal debate and we want action to be taken. But people face danger and harassment, not only in the physical world, but on the dark cyber streets and alleyways of the internet, and particularly from anonymous accounts on social media.
