After Osborne, it’s battle of the burgers!

Burgers are in the news thanks to Chancellor George Osborne, and now the search is on for the nation’s best homemade creation.

Former member of boy band JLS and fledgling farmer, JB Gill, has teamed up with Simply beef and lamb to launch ‘Battle of the Burgers’, a nationwide search to find the UK’s best homemade burger.

The competition is designed to encourage consumers to create their own burgers from scratch using quality assured beef or lamb. They can then enter their recipes on either Twitter or Facebook, or through the Simply beef and lamb website.

A panel of burger experts will shortlist the recipes and invite a group of finalists to attend a live cook-off in London, judged by JB and his team of burger connoisseurs. The winner will not only enjoy the prestigious accolade of ‘Battle of the Burgers Champion’, but they will also receive a £2,000 cash prize.

JB said:

"Burgers are a mealtime favourite in homes up and down the UK, but people don’t realise how simple it is to make them from scratch, instead of buying from the shop. Homemade burgers are much tastier and, as you know what’s going into your burger, you definitely have peace of mind.

“It's great to be involved with Simply beef and lamb and, getting into the farming industry myself this year, I’m learning more and more every day about just how important it is to cook with good quality produce by looking for a quality mark such as Red Tractor. That’s why I’m calling on the public to get creative with their cooking and I’m excited to see and taste some of their unique recipes.”

Entrants could be inspired by their local cuisine and submit anything from a Birmingham balti burger to a Lancashire hotpot burger or even just mix together their favourite foods and create a chilli and chocolate beef burger, or a lamb harissa burger.
