Bedroom tax's 'perverse' effect on carers

Carers Trust

1 min read Partner content

Responding to an article by Labour MP Barbara Keeley on why her bill exempting carers from the scope of the Governments spare room subsidy is needed, Moira Fraser, Interim Chief Executive of the Carers Trust said:

“We fully support the intention of this Bill to exempt unpaid carers and those needing overnight care from the Bedroom Tax. Carers need more support to enable them to continue to care, not less. It is perverse to subject thousands of unpaid carers to this. We urge the Government will adopt the measures in this Bill and demonstrate they are on carers’ side.”
