Beef and sheep market prices accessible with new app

A new app has been launched to make it easier for beef and sheep farmers and those in the processing sector to have the latest market information at their fingertips while on the go.

As well as the latest prices and trends, the EBLEX Mobile app gives users the fast track to the most commonly accessed areas of the organisation's stakeholder-facing website, including events, news, Better Returns Programme (BRP) resources and weather reports, localised to the current location.

You can search for the nearest auction markets to compare prices, favourite specific markets for quick access and create your own personalised library of technical manuals.

The idea behind the project has been to ensure that access to information is as quick as possible and can be used even when there is no wi-fi or mobile signal in England's more rural areas.

“The app obviously needs wi-fi or mobile data connectivity to download and update but, importantly, it means latest saved data can be accessed even when off-line, which is an advantage in more rural areas where coverage can be patchy at best,” said James Wilde, Head of Communications at EBLEX.

“In particular, favourite technical manuals can be quickly downloaded to the device and then accessed anytime, anywhere.

“It means producers, processors and other industry stakeholders can access key services without waiting until they are in front of a computer screen.”

The app has been designed as a streamlined version of the website to work specifically with smartphones and tablets. It also includes links to the main website to access additional services.

“Mobile technology and apps are an increasingly important communications channel but not something we wanted to rush into as we wanted to make sure we came up with a tool that had broad appeal,” added James.

“Feedback from our annual stakeholder survey had suggested that new tools to help access business information would be welcome, which made the timing right.

“We will continue to look to develop the app further and would welcome feedback from users, via the contact email addresses which can be found on the website.”

The EBLEX Mobile app is available for free on both Apple and Android platforms. Please visit Apple's App Store or Google Play and search for EBLEX.
