Building enough homes is an economic and social imperative
In response to the publication of the Lyons Review, Jan Crosby, UK Head of Housing at KPMG, commented:
“Building enough homes is a key election issue and lack of affordability is increasingly an issue for business - particularly in London and the South East. It is now an economic as well as social imperative.
“The Lyons review is the first political review that actually looks at comprehensive policies rather than piecemeal sound bites.
“Better connecting infrastructure and housing is key and can help to get buy in from local communities for new developments.
“Taking a regional approach to delivery is also good policy - many people live and work in different local authorities and hence working cross authority makes sense.
“The existing participants in the sector are doing their bit, but will not deliver 100,000 extra homes each year - supporting SMEs and new entrants alongside existing participants is a no brainer.
“Ultimately to be effective we must have cross party action to deliver on policies - we can't afford to just keep talking about solutions.”
