Bus tour kick-starts AQA summer teacher support programme

A two-week nationwide bus tour that is aimed at helping teachers through the changes that are being made to GCSEs and A-levels, begins next week in London and Bristol, AQA confirmed today.

The double-decker bus tour, which is the first in a series of teacher support events that AQA is running this summer, will give teachers the opportunity to meet AQA's experts and ask them any questions they have about the new qualifications.

Geoff Coombe, AQA's Director of General Qualifications, said:

"There is a lot of change happening in schools at the moment and we know that keeping on top of everything is a big worry for teachers. We want to try and make the transition to the new qualifications as simple as possible for them and that's where our buses come in.

"We know teachers don't have time to be wading through paperwork and documents so we think that by going out to their school or one nearby, we will make it easier for them to get the information and support they need. The buses will have a range of support materials and our experts will be able to answer any questions they may have."

This is the second time the AQA buses have taken to the road. Earlier this year teachers from more than 250 schools and colleges came on board the buses to give their views on AQA's proposed new GCSEs that are due to be taught from September 2015. The feedback, which included teachers' views on set texts for English Literature, directly impacted the content of the draft new qualifications that AQA has now submitted to Ofqual for accreditation.

The two AQA buses will be visiting schools in 20 locations across the country including Manchester, Newcastle, Birmingham and Southampton.

Teachers are being urged to check when the buses are at a school in their area. Take a look at the full list of venues and details about how to book an appointment.
