Cumbrian businesses to save thousands with free energy assessment scheme
Cumbrian businesses are set to save thousands of pounds on their energy bills thanks to a new scheme providing free energy assessments.
The new scheme has been set up by economic development organisation Britain's Energy Coast (BEC), the Cumbria Business Environment Network (CBEN) and the Cumbria Rural Enterprise Agency (CREA), to offer advice to companies on how to reduce energy bills as well as investigate options for using renewable forms of energy.
Expert advice will concentrate on the company’s energy management and spend and culminate in a detailed energy assessment which will include calculations for savings, costs and payback times.
The scheme provides scope to help fifteen businesses, and with three already signed up, the remaining places are expected to be snapped up in the first quarter of 2014.
Shelly Gambles, Business Support Manager at Britain’s Energy Coast, said: “Energy costs are right up there when it comes to issues that concern businesses, so we’re delighted to be able to offer free energy assessments as part of our comprehensive business support service. With a limited number of places, I would urge businesses to sign up without delay to avoid missing out on this opportunity to make significant savings at a time when prices continue to rise.”
Philip Wanless, Environmental Adviser at CREA, said: “In a very busy world, sometimes all we need is a fresh pair of eyes to point out the potential for cost savings that are staring us in the face. As a result of this BEC funded programme, CREA can help you to identify and quantify these opportunities, leaving you free to get on with running your business and it costs you nothing. The programme is open right now to any company so don’t delay – we can look at almost everything that is costing you money and rarely fail to find any cost savings.”
One business who has been quick to take up the opportunity is Maryport Harbour and Marina, who have already been assessed, with their report currently being finalised.
Pauline Gorley, General Manager at Maryport Harbour and Marina Limited, said: “We jumped at the chance to receive a free energy assessment to ensure that we were both energy efficient and cost effective. We are looking forward to receiving the report and will be very interested in the findings to help save on resources and energy costs.”
Although the programme is focused on energy efficiency, other environmental issues or regulations that are causing concern may also be tackled and advice provided on how to develop an environmental management system.
