Difficulty should not deter Gov't from solving homelessness

Responding to new homelessness figures, Turn2us Chief Executive, Simon Hopkins said:

The issues surrounding homelessness are complex, but it should have no place in our society. The figures in this report are concerning and should contribute to the broader debate of how we can provide a safety net for the most vulnerable.

There are no easy solutions, but that shouldn't deter the Government, local authorities and charities from treating this unacceptable blight on our society with the urgency that it so evidently requires. Longer term policies such as increasing affordable housing stock are clearly part of the solution, but something needs to be done now.

I'd also urge anyone concerned that they, or someone they know, could be at risk of homelessness to visit turn2us.org.uk to find out what financial support is available in the form of welfare benefits, such as housing support, and charitable grants.
