GMB alarm at impact of further £43m cuts in Wandsworth Council from April 2014
Some job losses in Wandsworth will be decided at a meeting next Thursday 3rd October but the bulk of the jobs to go will be revealed in November says GMB.
GMB, the union for workers in public services, responded to the announcement by Wandsworth Council that there is to be a special meeting on 3rd October to consider a further round of spending cuts of £43m from April 2014. See notes to editors for links to agenda and papers for the meeting.

“GMB is studying council documents released today by Wandsworth Tory Council setting out a further £43m cuts to services. This will bring the total for cuts to £70 million since the general election in 2010.
GMB is particularly alarmed about the drastic impact of the cuts on the front-line services people in Wandsworth rely on and the extent it will put the jobs and conditions of workers on the line.
This is the start of the cycle to implement a new round of cuts in councils to be introduced in April next year.

The cuts will be savage and far reaching and it is hard to see how cuts of £43million will not translate into large scale job losses.
GMB will seek further information on where the cuts will fall and where jobs will be lost or outsourced.
There are borough elections next year and GMB will seek to mobilise maximum opposition to the loss of vital front line services.”
