This was clearly a budget for technology and innovation, says Dr Joanna Cox, Head of Policy at the Institution of Engineering and Technology.

Dr Joanna Cox, Head of Policy at the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), comments on the Chancellor’s Budget.

“This was clearly a budget for technology and innovation with announcements of ambitious spending plans which will help to stimulate investment, jobs and economic growth.

“The UK engineering community stands ready to play its full part in delivering the independent, and impartial ‘systems thinking’ that will be needed to ensure success.

“Increased funding for R&D including monies for a new ‘blue skies’ agency were most welcome and will play a vital role in leveraging regional prosperity and make progress towards net zero.”
