KPMG welcomes establishment of All Party Parliamentary Group on Responsible Tax

Newly formed APPG should enable closer scrutiny of tax and build a more in-depth understanding before legislation is passed, says KPMG

Commenting on the announcement today on the establishment of an All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on tax, Jane McCormick, UK Senior Tax Partner and Head of Tax for EMA at KPMG, said:

“We absolutely welcome this move. It will enable parliamentarians to scrutinise tax more closely so that they can have a more in-depth understanding of this notoriously complex issue before legislating on it.

“The idea of an APPG on responsible tax was a key recommendation in the ‘Responsible Tax for the Common Good’ project. This has been curated by thinktank, CoVi, and KPMG has been pleased to support it. We are delighted to see one of the key recommendations brought to life – and hope it connects key stakeholder groups with one another and the wider public.

Chris Morgan, Head of Tax Policy at KPMG in the UK, added:

“It is crucial that stakeholders from all sides of the debate on tax, including from business and the advisory community, engage with this new APPG. Members need to be aware of and understand the very diverse range of opinions on tax. Through the ‘Responsible Tax for the Common Good’ project, we’ve seen that it is possible to bring people together from different backgrounds and with different opinions to have a constructive debate on tax. All parties in the debate may not agree with one another but they can build an understanding of each others’ viewpoints. We hope that this APPG will form a powerful focus for continued constructive dialogue and better policy-making on tax.”
