According to the Times, the Prime Minister will remove the £30,000 minimum salary threshold for immigrants arriving after Brexit. The National Federation of Builders responds.
Richard Beresford, chief executive of the National Federation of Builders (NFB) said: “This is very welcome news. We have been very outspoken on this issue as it is vital for the longevity of the construction industry. We are pleased that the Government has listened and restored some confidence in the future of construction employment post Brexit.”
The Migration Advisory Committee is due to publish a report next week on how the new points-based system would work and the Government is expected to publish its white paper in March. The aim is for the system to be introduced immediately at the end of the Brexit transition period in December.
Beresford added: “However, whilst this is welcome news the new points based system must have its own transition period to ensure that industry, especially construction, is able to retain high quality foreign staff while training new employees to reach an expected standard.”
