Revolution Plastics shortlisted for Environmental Leadership Award

Revolution Plastics has received recognition for the crucial role it is taking in the global battle against plastic pollution.

Award graphicThe initiative, which is a collaboration of leading researchers, academics and scientists at the University of Portsmouth, has just been shortlisted for a significant new award at the 2023 Times Higher Education Awards.

On hearing that he and his team had been shortlisted for ‘Outstanding Contribution to Environmental Leadership’, Professor Steve Fletcher, Director of Revolution Plastics, said: “This is great news, and a reflection of the worldwide impact our work in Portsmouth is now having. Whether it is collaborative projects in Africa, creating the Global Plastics Policy Centre or providing evidence-based research to inform the on-going Global Plastics Treaty negotiations, we are dedicated to finding new solutions to the global plastic pollution crisis.”

This is great news, and a reflection of the worldwide impact our work in Portsmouth is now having. Whether it is collaborative projects in Africa, creating the Global Plastics Policy Centre or providing evidence-based research to inform the on-going Global Plastics Treaty negotiations, we are dedicated to finding new solutions to the global plastic pollution crisis.

Revolution Plastics has been shortlisted for two categories. Alongside ‘Environmental Leadership’, it has also received a nomination for ‘Outstanding Marketing/Communications Team’, recognising the role the initiative has played in helping the University of Portsmouth become one of the UK's leading universities in environmental sustainability.

The Times Higher Education Awards is a highly regarded event, recognising the often groundbreaking work by individuals and teams at British universities and other institutions. The 2023 ceremony will be held in Liverpool on 7 December. 

From a record-breaking haul of entries, 120 – featuring 74 different institutions – have made the shortlist, with the 20 categories spanning the full range of university activity, covering academic and professional services, from front-line staff through all levels of leadership and management.
