Sky Rainforest Rescue wins first place at 2 Degrees Awards
Last night Sky Rainforest Rescue came out on top at the 2014 2degrees Champion Awards for its external communications. The awards, held last night at Wembley Stadium, saw Sky and WWF go up against strong competition to take home the External Communications Campaign award.
The awards were established to recognise the companies that are driving innovation and pushing the boundaries of sustainable business, and this year recognised Sky’s efforts in partnership with WWF.
Believing in better for the people in the Amazon and in protecting the world’s largest rainforest, Sky Rainforest Rescue is a partnership where WWF and Sky are working together to help save a billion trees in Acre, north–west Brazil. The partnership was recognised for its ambition to raise awareness of the rainforest nationwide by bringing the Amazon to every home in the UK.
Nicky Day, Director of Corporate Partnerships at WWF said:
“This award pays tribute to the hard work that has been put into the partnership and its ambitions to reach new audiences to increase understanding of the importance and issues facing our rainforests. From Freddie Flintoff's Road To Nowhere on Sky1 to Lily Cole-designed trainers, made from rubber which is sourced from the wild rubber trees in Acre, we’re leading the way with innovative marketing approaches that have inspired people to take notice of the rainforest.
“We hope they will continue to support Sky Rainforest Rescue.”
The campaign has helped thousands of people across the UK the opportunity to make one small change, by donating to the rainforest conservation project, making small lifestyle changes or simply spreading the word through news and social media. It has also given them the chance to learn more about the rainforest through Discovery trails, a wild rubber exhibit at the Eden Project, school initiatives and an online campaign where over 5,000 people have pledged to protect the Amazon.
WWF’s partnership with Coca-Cola was also nominated for the Water Management Award and were a close runner up, an acknowledgement of the partnership’s importance in restoring and improving UK rivers.
