The Go-Ahead Group bus companies are supporting the national ‘catch the bus week’ with a series of fun events running from 28 April to 4 May.

The campaign’s aim is to get people who normally don’t take the bus to make the switch – and find out how easy and convenient it can be.

Local operators are encouraging the whole community to trial the bus – if they’re not regular passengers already. Promotions and competitions will give tickets to use to travel to places like, work, the shops or even just a local park. If everyone replaced just one car journey a month with a trip on the bus – there’d be a billion fewer car journeys a year reducing carbon emissions and road congestion.

Go-Ahead bus companies are ‘hosting’ buses in town and city centres with staff on hand to talk about local routes and services. There’ll be social media and online giveaways all week and all company websites will have details of special events taking place.

Morebus will be giving away 100 free tickets in Poole Town Square. There’s a special ‘catch the bus week’ mobile ticket and local radio station HOT will be promoting events.

Bluestar together with Southampton City Council, First and Stagecoach will be giving away free tickets to first time travellers and holding an event with a celebrity chef cooking new things to try. The company will also have an online promotional offer for existing bus customers.

Salisbury Reds is hosting a bus in the city square, giving away 100 free tickets and offering existing passengers an online discount on ‘the key’ smartcard.

Plymouth Citybus will be offering 10% off a special mobile ticket with an additional 10% going to charity for every ticket sold. There’ll also be the chance to win a week’s free travel.

Oxford Bus will have online daily social media competitions, with free tickets and merchandise giveaways as well as promotions at their High Street shop.

Go North East will have social media competitions to win mobile-tickets and will be joining up with Stagecoach and Arriva to host local events.

Metrobus will be running daily competitions and mobile-tickets flash sales via social media as well as having giveaways at key stations and town centres.

Brighton and Hove buses Local MP Simon Kirby will be hosting his weekly surgery on a bus and the company will be offering free tickets to first time users from Brighton town centre and at key bus stops in the area.

Anglian bus and Konectbus will be giving away free tickets and will be promoting events in and around Norwich.
