When WWF concluded that a new build was the best solution for a new UK Headquarters, it set out to create an exemplar building in terms of sustainability and design.

As part of the project, WWF aspired to create a building that would qualify for the award of BREEAM “Outstanding”. BREEAM is the world’s foremost environmental assessment method and rating system for buildings.

WWF-UK moved to The Living Planet Centre in October 2013 and the building was opened by David Attenborough on 1 November of the same year. All of the hard work to achieve a high BREEAM status has paid off with the LPC being awarded the “Outstanding” level on 28 May 2014.

Karen Gravestock, Director of People Place and coordinator of the LPC Project said:

“We are really thrilled to have reached the highest level in the BREEAM certification process. We set out to exceed the 85% pass mark for “Outstanding” so to achieve a score of over 90% is simply brilliant. The LPC is an inspiring building; it’s great place to work and to visit. I would like to thank all our partners who have worked with us to achieve this award, in particular Hopkins Architects and Willmott Dixon”.
