Local Government People draws together details of this week's local by-election result and changes to councils' political compositions.

Local authority by-elections held Thursday 14th August 2014:

London Borough of Lambeth Council – Knight’s Hill – Labour hold.

By-election held due to resignation of Cllr Sonia Winifred as she was employed by the council at the time of the election, which is against the rules.

Winifred, Sonia – Labour – 1,265 votes (63.7%) **elected**
Nicholson, Heidi – Conservative – 248 votes (12.5%)
Hocknell, Christopher – Green Party – 230 votes (11.6%)
Lambert, Robin – UKIP – 99 votes (4.9%)
Hardware, Robert – Liberal Democrats – 94 votes (4.7%)
Amos, Nelly – Independent – 51 votes (2.6%)

Votes: 1,987
Turnout: 1,987 (19.5%)
Majority: 1,017

Bolsover District Council - South Normanton East – Labour hold.

Cannon, Tracey – Labour – 293 votes (70.9%) **elected**
Sainsbury, Robert – Conservative – 120 votes (29.1%)

Votes: 413*
Turnout: 414 (12.5%)
Majority: 173

Political compositions of the local authorities concerned:
London Borough of Lambeth Council: Labour 59, Conservative 3, Green 1 - Labour controlled.
Bolsover District Council: Labour 32, District Residents Group 3, Independent 2 – Labour controlled.

*number does not include spoiled ballots
