Registered Competent Person Electrical (RCPE), the Government backed register of approved electricians, received significant cross-party support today at a drop-in session held for MPs and industry stakeholders at Portcullis House, Westminster.

The event was organised to boost political awareness of the register, the value of using competent electricians and the importance of electrical safety in the home. A number of prominent MPs and industry stakeholders attended to show their support, including the Minister for the Department of Communities and Local Government, Stephen Williams.

Commenting on the event, Barry Sheerman MP, former Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Home Safety Group said: “The creation of Registered Competent Person Electrical was a vital move to increase the profile of electrical safety in the home. It has unified competent, registered electricians under a common banner from the consumer’s perspective and this is a real step forward in the ongoing challenge of raising public awareness.”

RCPE was formed after Competent Person Scheme Operators NAPIT and Certsure came together with all other DCLG authorised Full Scope electrical Competent Person Scheme Operators to create one easily identifiable mark for all Full Scope Part P registered electricians.

Commenting on the event, NAPIT Group Chief Executive, Michael Andrews, said: “The launch of a single register for all Full Scope, competent electrical installers in England and Wales was a huge step forward for the electrical industry. RCPE now lists over 40,000 electrical enterprises, providing the most comprehensive resource available for consumers to identify competent electricians. Today’s event represents a key milestone in raising the political profile of the register and I’m delighted with the cross-party support we’ve received.”

Emma Clancy, CEO of Certsure, added: “Registered Competent Person Electrical is a great example of industry cooperation and this drop-in session highlights our ongoing commitment to raising the profile of the register in order to greatly simplify the task of finding an approved electrician.”

“With more than 43,000 people having visited the site in the first six months since its launch it is quickly becoming the number one site to find a registered, competent electrician.”
Registered Competent Person Electrical is a Government backed register of approved electrical enterprises that strives to make finding competent electricians easier than ever before for the general public. Supported by a recognisable mark, user-friendly search facility and website, it lists all electrical firms registered to carry out domestic electrical work in England and Wales.
Domestic electricians registered with any of the DCLG authorised Competent Person Scheme Operators in England and Wales are eligible to be listed on the register and display the RCPE mark, free of charge.
