Our Work: Glue Traps

Following Humane World’s campaign highlighting the serious animal welfare problems of rodent glue traps, legislation to ban public use of glue traps to catch mice and other rodents was passed in England in 2024. Wales passed similar legislation in 2023, while the use and sale of rodent glue traps will be prohibited in Scotland from July 2026.

These inhumane traps cause extreme suffering to sentient wild animals, including protected species like birds and bats, and even pets. While we welcome bans on their use in England and Wales we are extremely concerned that they can still be purchased online and in many hardware and corner shops, giving members of the public the false impression they are still legal to use. We are also concerned that rodent glue traps are being rebranded as insect or 'pest' traps, seemingly to avoid being challenged over their sale.

We are calling on the UK and Welsh Governments to follow Scotland's lead by introducing complete bans on the use and sale of rodent glue traps.
