Nationwide respond to Housing Secretary's statement that beautiful homes should become the 'norm’

Today the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government is expected to publish the Building Better, Building Beautiful Commission's report. Nationwide responds.

Commenting, Nationwide states:

"While good design runs through every aspect of our lives, from the cars we drive to the phones in our pockets, the same can’t always be said for the homes we live in. The report is an essential reminder that we need think more about how we shape our communities so people enjoy living in them and that when building housing units, they’ll be for people to call ‘home’.

"Well-designed developments with the support of the local community should be prioritised through the planning system. Nationwide Building Society is building a 239 home development in our home town of Swindon to demonstrate how housebuilding can be done differently. The homes in our development were designed in partnership with the local community and were inspired by the traditional Brunel railway cottages in the town. This approach to delivering good quality design meant that the development received planning permission without receiving a formal objection, something that is rare for a development of this type."
