Sajid Javid announces new ‘start-up' visa to attract entrepreneurs to Britain

Sajid Javid announces new ‘start-up' visa to attract entrepreneurs to Britain
2 min read

A visa scheme for entrepreneurs looking to set up new businesses in Britain has been unveiled by Sajid Javid.

The scheme, set to launch next spring, would allow a “faster and smoother” visa application process for entrepreneurial migrants looking to establish firms in the UK.

The new visa will expand on a current programme which allows 2,000 non-EU migrants to enter the country to if they meet educational requirements and have sponsorship from an approved UK university.

Under new plans unveiled by the Home Office, migrants will be now also be able to enter the country if they can find a UK business willing to sponsor them, which the Government hopes will provide an influx of talented entrepreneurs looking to come to the country after Brexit.

Home Secretary Sajid Javid said: “The UK can be proud that we are a leading nation when it comes to tech and innovation, but we want to do more to attract business to the UK and our migration system plays a key part in that.

“That’s why I am pleased to announce a new visa for people wanting to start a business in the UK. This will help to ensure we continue to attract the best global talent and maintain the UK’s position as a world-leading destination for innovation and entrepreneurs.

“This initiative builds on other recent reforms to the visa system – including doubling the number of visas available on the Exceptional Talent route to 2,000 per year – and shows the Government’s commitment to making the UK a dynamic, open, globally-trading nation.”
