Tory MP Nadine Dorries under fire after revealing she 'shares passwords with staff'

Tory backbencher Nadine Dorries has been criticised after revealing on Twitter that she shares computer passwords with her staff, including interns.

Ms Dorries divulged the information in an attempt to defend First Secretary of State Damian Green, who has been accused of having porn on his work computer – an allegation he strongly denies.

The Mid Bedfordshire MP was responding to the suggestion by a police officer that Mr Green would have been the only person able to access his own work computer.

She said: “My staff log onto my computer on my desk with my login everyday. Including interns on exchange programmes.

“For the officer on @BBCNews just now to claim that the computer on Greens desk was accessed and therefore it was Green is utterly preposterous !!”

Ms Dorries immediately faced a barrage of criticism, with some people accusing her of compromising the Government’s cyber security.

She hit back, saying she was “flattered by number of people on here who think I’m part of the Government and have access to government docs.”

“I’m a back bench MP - 2 Westminster based computers in a shared office. On my computer, there is a shared email account. That’s it. Nothing else. Sorry to disappoint!”

Fellow Tory backbencher Nick Boles defended the practice, saying: “I often forget my password and have to ask my staff what it is.”
