It is excellent that the government has again committed to clarifying employment status - IPSE

Jonathan Lima-Matthews, Senior Policy Adviser at IPSE, responded to Kelly Tolhurst's article.

As well as the welcome improvements to workers’ rights, it is excellent that the government has again committed to clarifying employment status. For too long, the confusion about self-employed status has harmed freelancers and workers alike.

The government must now write a statutory definition of self-employment into law. This would not only guarantee the rights of struggling workers, but also protect the freedom of legitimately self-employed people, who add £271bn to the UK economy each year.

We look forward to working with the government to create a fairer, clearer employment status system for all.
