GGF Best Placed for Brexit Readiness

Glass and Glazing Federation

Following the outcome of the recent General Election and with a Conservative Government and clear majority in parliament, it now looks likely that the UK will withdraw from the European Union next year.

The Glass and Glazing Federation (GGF) has been in constant liaison with the Government department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) on Brexit and its implications for the glass and glazing sector. In October 2019, the GGF gained funding from the Government to prepare for Brexit. With this government grant the GGF has produced an information brochure and a new section of the GGF website. In the coming weeks and months, the GGF will continue to update GGF Members and the industry on the changes as they happen.

The Brexit date is currently set for 31 January 2020. Prime Minister Boris Johnson has already agreed a deal with the EU, but the Brexit Bill still needs to go through Parliament, however with a Conservative majority, it is likely to be passed in Parliament. The default position - if the Bill is not passed and MPs reject the Bill, the UK would leave without one.

With or without a deal, you can currently read the potential impact of Brexit and various scenarios drawn up by GGF and industry experts in the GGF Brexit Hub.

The Brexit Hub contains information on legislation, policy, technical standards, import/export scenarios and latest news.
