It is sad that low paid staff working for the public have to take strike action to get a living wage says GMB

69 GMB members employed as cleaners by contractors OCS in the Royal Borough of Kensington Chelsea will take 24 hours of strike action on Tuesday 27th August after they returned a unanimous vote for strike action in a dispute over a pay freeze.

There will be GMB members on picket lines with flags and banners on Tuesday 27th August from 7am onwards as the following four locations:

292 Kensal Road, London, W10 5BE.

Worlds End Estate – London, SW10 OEE.

Adair Road – London W10 5EE.

Trellick Towers – London, W10 5PA.

GMB members at OCS are seeking the London Living Wage of £8.55 per hour. They currently earn £7.18 per hour.

OCS holds the contract to provide cleaning services for Kensington Chelsea Tenants' Management Organisation (TMO) and the cleaners provide services for the residents on housing estates in the north and south of the borough.

Gary Carter, GMB Organiser said, “It is sad that low paid staff working for the public have to take strike action to get a living wage.

Staff morale is at rock bottom and a pro-longed dispute will have a negative impact on the cleanliness of the estates. OCS should do the right thing and pay the London Living Wage.”
