Conservative MP Patrick Spencer has been charged with two counts of sexual assault.
The charges follow two alleged claims with two separate women at the Groucho Club in London in August 2023, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said on Tuesday.
Spencer will appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Monday, 19 May. Spencer was elected for Central Suffolk and North Ipswich in July 2024 with a majority of 4,290. Labour came second in the seat, followed by Reform UK.
The Conservative Party said it had suspended Spencer and withdrawn the party whip.
A spokesperson said: “The Conservative Party believes in integrity and high standards. We have taken immediate action. Patrick Spencer MP has been suspended from the Conservative Party, and the whip withdrawn, with immediate effect.
“The Conservative Party cannot comment further on an ongoing legal case.”
The party asked Spencer to stay away from the parliamentary estate while police enquiries are ongoing, PoliticsHome understands.
