If you’re behind the wheel, leave your phone alone says RHA

Road Haulage Association

RHA supports tougher penalties for those using hand-help phones while behind the wheel.

Despite the Road Haulage Association’s constant calls for increased deterrents to eradicate the use of hand held mobile phones while driving, it’s still happening as reported in today’s Daily Mail.

September’s report from the RAC highlighted the dangers of this practice and we fully support tougher penalties for those using hand-held phones while driving.

“This week we have seen a Polish truck driver jailed for causing the death of a family of four because he was distracted by his mobile phone”, said RHA chief executive Richard Burnett.

“Using a hand held phone to make or receive calls, read emails or send text messages or to change music channels while behind the wheel is becoming a common occurrence and it appears that for many foreign HGV drivers, this is common practice.

“Obviously, the legislation that covers the use of mobile devices varies throughout Europe but for those driving in the UK, our message is simple. If you’re behind the wheel, leave your mobile phone alone until you can stop and use it safely.”
