Manchester high school for girls set for state-of-the-art sixth form centre
Sixth Formers at Manchester High School for Girls are getting a modern, state-of-the-art centre as part of the School’s programme to update and improve its facilities to offer the best teaching environment for pupils. The new centre is being backed by a £3.75 million funding package from Santander Corporate Commercial.
The School, which is one of the country’s leading independent schools, has been undertaking a renewal programme over the past ten years, and now plans to demolish some older classrooms to make way for a new purpose-built, three-story building at the entrance to the school.
The sixth-form centre will include new laboratories and ICT Facilities, lecture theatre, six classrooms, a new café and common rooms, as well as office and administration space.
Manchester High School for Girls, established in 1874, provides education for girls aged 4 – 18 and consistently achieves some of the country’s best results in public examinations. It’s been located at its current site on Grangethorpe Road since 1949. The School has already replaced its sports hall and extended the Preparatory School as part of their development programme.
The current sixth form will not be impacted during the construction of, and relocation to, the new centre.
Claire Hewitt, Head Mistress of Manchester High School for Girls, said: “We are excited about embarking on this new project to modernise and update our sixth-form centre. At Manchester High School for Girls, we are dedicated to providing the best possible environment for our pupils to help them enjoy the experience of learning, and committed to providing the best possible resources for our students.”
Jo Phipson, Relationship Director for Santander Corporate Commercial, said: “We are proud to have been able to support Manchester High School for Girls with this latest part of their renewal process. It is great to have a chance to work with this key local educational establishment to help improve and develop the facilities in which students can thrive and enjoy their time at school.”
