We are thrilled to announce that our Digital Champions campaign has been nominated in the ‘Campaign of the Year’ category in the upcoming Mobile Industry Awards 2023.

Our campaign, calling for centrally funded local authority Digital Champions, launched last year and was built on a need to elevate widespread awareness of mobile infrastructure. The campaign seeks to develop a role within local authorities to help coordinate mobile deployment and break down barriers to mobile networks. It also focussed sought to build education among local communities and change perception about mobile infrastructure.

The campaign centred around influencing and changing national policy, and culminated in the Minister of State for Digital, Julia Lopez MP, endorsing the role of digital champions at Mobile UK’s annual parliamentary reception and writing them into the Government's long-term Wireless Infrastructure Strategy.

Alongside the Minster’s interest in the campaign, it also successfully endeavoured to build rapport with opinion formers and industry influencers and became the policy of several national representative bodies for local government.

Our Digital Champions campaign spurred the creation of digital champions within local authorities and put Mobile UK on the map as innovative thinkers in the mobile infrastructure industry. y. The campaign has generated extremely positive action within the UK and devolved governments, with both the Welsh and Northern Irish Government’s writing digital champions into their Mobile Action Plans.

The high-level endorsements received for the campaign from industry bodies and the mobile network operators has proven impact. As an industry we are continuing encourage Government to fund Digital Champions at a local level to coordinate across multiple departments and have decision-making powers that will be crucial to generating outcomes.

We have achieved and surpassed many of the objectives we set ourselves through focusing our activities on tangible outcomes and efficient use of tactical activities to ensure resources and budgets are deployed effectively.

Overall, we are grateful for our successes to be recognised by the Mobile Industry Awards 2023 and look forward to attending the award ceremony on 21 September 2023.
